How to significantly increase your internet speed on Windows 8/RT PC [Video]
Internet nowadays has become the most common thing in computers and everyone who has a computer can access internet easily. Internet speeds differ from place to place on country basis where some people have ultra fast internet speeds of 1Gbps while others have just few Mb speeds but, the common problem in all the internet users is the speed they get. Although, you might be promised much higher speeds from your internet provider but, you won’t get those speeds on your Windows based PC’s.
All Windows based PC’s come with pre-configured settings which limit your speeds but, now, you would be able to increase your internet speed significantly and you will surely notice the increase in speed after applying the simple tweak below.
So, if you are one of the people who aren’t satisfied with your current internet speed then, you are at the right place.
How its made possible?
Windows 8/RT, by default limits your bandwidth usage to decrease internet data usage but, if the limit is removed you can get the actual speed of your internet connection on your Windows 8/RT PC. There is a group policy which puts limits on your internet connection but, you can remove that limit by tweaking the policy.
Follow the instructions below to increase your internet speed using Windows 8/RT:
Instructions:
- First of all, check your current internet speed by going to ‘speedtest.net’. My internet speed was 2.59 Mbps down and .97Mbps up with a ping time of 81ms which is pretty good especially on a 3G network.
- Now, when you have checked your internet speed, let’s proceed to our tweak. Go to Start Screen (Windows key on keyboard or tablet) and type in following
gpedit,msc
- You would be showed ‘gpedit’ in results. Press it.
- ‘Local Group Policy Editor‘ will open on desktop. Here navigate to:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > QoS Packer Scheduler
- In ‘Qos Packer Scheduler’ you would see the ‘Limit reserveable bandwidth’. Press it.
- A pop-up window will open. Here check ‘Enabled’ and type zero ‘0’ in the input box. Press ‘Apply’ and then ‘OK’.
- Now, go to ‘speedtest.net’ again and check your internet speed. Your internet speed would have increased significantly. My download speed increased to 2.77 Mbps from 2.59 Mbps while the upload speed went a bit down to 0.53 Mbps with a ping time of 79ms.
I don’t need the upload speed but, downloading is crucial.
- That’s all! Your internet speed has increased a bit.
You can see all the above steps in the video below which also shows the speed increase.
