Upon trying to update any App you find that you are unable to update it rather the system completely becomes unresponsive. Or say the update feature is completely not responding. Like use Win + X menu to open control panel and go to updates and update the apps you want to.
Often it has been noticed that third party Anti-virus prevents the updates from running. Disable AV and try running Updates.
Try running updates one by one instead of running several updates all at a time. Open Control panel using the start screen tile or power user menu. In the control panel, go to System and Security and then to Windows Update.
If the Windows Update service itself is unresponsive, then look for the service in system configuration. Press Win + R to open RUN dialog box and type in services.msc. Here look for Windows Update Service and disable it.
Next, look for SoftwareDistribution folder in C: Drive. If such folder doesn’t exist create one. Remove all the contents from the folder and reboot the system. On system startup, again open services.msc and this time enable the Windows Update Service that was previously disabled and run the update. Hope this works and Windows gets updated without any hangs.
Disable Anti-virus other than MSE or Windows 8 defender and see if this helps in updating the drivers or OS. Often AV creates conflicts and prevents updates from running leading to system hang and freeze.
