Why Root: Advantages & Disadvantages?
Why did I root (and unlock) my phone? Great question, in short, I wanted to be able to customize my phone anyway I want, no limitations. But, it’s not all fun and games, because, depending on what you do with your phone after obtaining root access, it is possible to ruin the performance of the phone, and/or brick the device altogether. So here are some reasons why it may, or may not be worth it to root and customize your phone. Keep in mind, be careful what software you flash, and make sure its the right software for your phone.
Advantages
First and foremost, with root access and an unlocked bootloader, you now have an infinite amount of customization options, from launchers, ROMs, themes to custom kernels. Another huge advantage is the ability to use root apps from the Play Store to do things like, adjust CPU and display setting, uninstall system apps, flash software, etc. Finally, custom software almost always performs better in every way than stock software, and that is because most custom ROMs for example, are bloatware free, no excess stuff taking up space. The software and hardware on custom ROMs are also usually better optimized, leading to more fluidity, which is always a plus. This is also due to the fact that custom ROMs get updated on a daily to weekly basis, compared to stock software.
Disadvantages
The obvious disadvantage is the chance to brick your device if the wrong software gets flashed, trust me, I've done this before. I flashed a GSM ROM to a CDMA phone, I couldn't get a signal and apps force closed all the time…so don't make the same mistake! The other big issue with customizing your device after rooting is, there will almost always be bugs, most ROMs and mods are unstable in one way or another, and usually don't work with all devices. At some point you will come upon bugs in custom software, usually more so than in stock software. So if you are going to heavily customize your phone, with ROMs, kernels and mods, be ready for beta level software, in some cases. Now I am not saying that all custom software is unstable, you're just on your own more when it comes to finding the software you want to use, and deciding whether it is stable enough for your device. Not so much a disadvantage, and more of an annoyance, is the constant backing up/restoring or whipping all data that has to be done in order to install different custom ROMs and mods, so prier data doesn't get corrupted during flashing. That’s really about all for major issues involved with rooting and customization, the rest are small and you will encounter them yourself if and when you come to the dark side of Android, so to speak.
Conclusion
I would not recommend this method for novice users because you might get your phone bricked. But its worth all the risk you can run
HD games and apps on your smartphone.I would recommend purchasing a android smartphone with android v4.0 and above (ice cream sandwich) which is already rooted.
