Windows 7 Freezes during Malware Scan – How to Fix it?

While running Full System Scan using Anti-malware, you find that your system stops responding or freezes. Many users have been complaining about this sort of problems. Whenever you try to run a full scan using your Anti-virus, the system freezes or hangs after running a scan for a while leaving with the only option to turn off the PC using the power off button or Reboot. These problems are generally created by malware activities to prevent Anti-malware from detecting them. Here are some troubleshooting steps to fix issues with Windows 7 hangs and freezes.

  • On scanning for malware on the system, if the scan stops at a specific folder then there might be issues with that folder. Try locating it and delete that folder if it’s not that important.
  • Open Start menu and in the search box, type in CMD and select Run as Administrator on right clicking on the .exe file.
  • In the command window, type SFC /Scannow and hit Return
  • This command will check the system for errors and fix them. After running SFC/Scannow if you still find your PC freezing on scan or the SFC scannow fails to complete the scan, follow the next fix.

If the system is unable to run SFC/Scannow, then reboot your system and press F8 to enter BIOS as soon as the logo comes up on screen.
In BIOS, go to Advanced Options or Repair Computer and start repairing your system hitting the Repair Your Computer button. You can see an installation window on screen running a repair process on the system. Once done the Next button. Next, Open command prompt and type in the command CHKDSK C: /R
This will run the disk scan and fix errors on the system.
Upon completion of scan, reboot the system and enter Windows in Normal Mode and start running Full scan on PC. You can find that your system doesn’t freeze on scanning.
