Amazon on Tuesday launched an online marketplace in India that allows users to list and sell their products directly to consumers.
At launch, the site, Amazon.in, is selling print books television shows for sale.The company is planning to expand its product footprint to cameras,mobiles and other electronics devices.
“Our vision, at Amazon, is to be Earth’s most customer centric company; to build a place where people can come to find and discover virtually anything they want to buy online,” Greg Greeley, vice president of International Expansion at Amazon.com, said in a statement. “With Amazon.in, we endeavor to build that same destination in India by giving customers more of what they want – vast selection, low prices, fast and reliable delivery, and a trusted and convenient experience.”
“Our vision is to become a trusted and meaningful sales channel for retailers of all sizes across India, enabling them to succeed and grow their business online,” said Amit Agarwal, vice president, and country manager, Amazon India.
Amazon Seller Services set up in February last year another website called Junglee.com that allowed retailers in India to advertise their products free to Indian shoppers and drive traffic to their stores where the sale was completed
