Turn Off Typing Animation Feature in MS Office 2013


With the launch of Windows 8, Microsoft has launched Office 2013. Like Windows 8 included many features, Office 2013 has also included many new features. Typing Animation Feature is one such new included feature. This feature is included to make typing appear smoother in Office 2013. This feature comes in handy and useful to users who have a slow typing speed but users having 80+ wpm for them this feature can be distracting and annoying. In this tutorial we will be discussing about how you can disable the Typing Animation Feature in Office 2013.
disable Typing Animation Feature Office 2013The typing animation feature can be distractive and annoying if you have a slow and sluggish computer. Windows 8 has enabled this feature by default, but it can be disabled. To do so, follow the steps given below.
The procedure described here deals with registry change. So make sure to set a restore point or back up to retrieve at any point when anything goes wrong.

Steps to Disable Typing Animation Feature in Office 2013

  • Press Windows + R to open run dialog box, type in regedit and hit Enter. This will open Windows registry Editor
  • Upon prompted by UAC, click Yes to continue
  • In the registry, navigate to the following locationHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common

  • In the left pane, if look for Graphics key under the Common key, if not present, right-click on the Common key and select New > Key from the popup menu
  • Create a new key to the bottom of the list and name it as Graphics
  • In the right pane of graphics, right-click in an empty area and select New DWORD (32-bit) Value to create a new DWORD
    Name it as DisableAnimation, and double-click on it
  • In the properties window that pops out, change the Value data to 1 and click OK

  • Next click OK and close the Registry Editor.
  • Restart your Windows 8 to apply the changes.
On reboot you can see that the Typing Animation Feature in Office 2013 has been disabled.
To undo or turn on the typing animation in office 2013, go back to Registry Editor, and either delete the DisableAnimation created DWORD and the Graphics key or change the Value data for the DisableAnimation value to 0.
